Make Up Your Mind

Were you aware that your mind can create ideas that are not necessarily correct? Whenever your mind reinforces negative thought patterns, it is the perfect time to recognize that you are on the verge of an energetic episode of depression. The moment you realize you have negative, dark thoughts, you have the opportunity to take action to change those negative thought cycles to positive ones. For example, if you think, “My family doesn’t care about me, what’s the point,” the alternative thought might be, “I understand that my family loves me, even if they treat me differently than I would like.” Question your negative thoughts often to improve your experience of depression. I realize it may not be easy at first to embrace conscious positive thoughts, but over time and with practice, embracing positive, willing thoughts is an invaluable tool to change the way depression feels.

Schedule Your Phone Time

Yes, I know many people love cell phones, laptops, the internet, and social sites. The longer you invest in intense engagement with print on a structured schedule, the more likely you will develop unhealthy behaviors to deal with depression. Paying too much attention to our phone screens can cost us our ability to concentrate, stay focused, remember things clearly, feel connected to ourselves, or feel a sense of entitlement. Assessing the time you spend using your phone can improve productivity.

Go Outdoors

It may not be a bright day outdoors, but being outdoors is a great way to readjust your depression or experience a decrease in energy. Focus your attention on observing interactions or elements that you can enjoy, which allows you to experience pleasure or find interesting. Getting outside also has an excellent benefit of sunlight and vitamin D, which has been shown to prevent depression and improve mood balance. Evaluating one or more of these suggestions can help depression and increase vitality.
